The Town Council of Córdoba unanimously voted in plenary session to adhere to the Club of Madrid’s Call to Action on Leadership for Shared Societies.

Madrid, 6 May 2009. The Town Council of Córdoba unanimously voted in plenary session to adhere to the Club of Madrid’s Call to Action on Leadership for Shared Societies that seeks for social cohesion and a safer world for diversity.

In the motives memorandum, the Town Council recognizes the positive value of the call to action that Club de Madrid launched at the Global Forum on Leadership for Shared Societies in Rotterdam last November 2008, aiming all social sectors to get fully involved in favour of the social cohesion as an irreplaceable mechanism to achieve effective shared societies. This objective links with the historical essence of the city of Córdoba.

The Town Council also stresses the importance of the Club de Madrid as an organization made of ideologically diverse world leaders who work towards the common objective of building a better future for all, on the basis of liberty, equality and solidarity.

The city of Córdoba hosted from 17-19 March 2009 the first International Forum on Diversity and Interculturality as a scenario to analyze the dialogue between cultures and promote the participation and dialogue, the exchange of social cohesion experiences and the creation of dynamics of cooperation between the civil society and governmental institutions in the different regions of the world. Kim Campbell, former prime minister of Canada and current member of the Club de Madrid, gave the first lecture of the Forum. Madrid, 6 Mayo 2009.  El Ayuntamiento de la ciudad de Córdoba acordó en pleno, su adhesión al llamamiento del Club de Madrid a la acción de los líderes a favor de la cohesión social, dirigido a lograr sociedades inclusivas y un mundo más seguro para la diversidad.

En su exposición de motivos el Ayuntamiento de Córdoba reconoce el valor positivo del llamamiento a la acción que el Club de Madrid lanzó en el Foro de Rótterdam en Noviembre 2008, para que todos los sectores sociales se impliquen decididamente en la acción favorecedora de la cohesión social, como mecanismo insustituible para la efectiva consecución de sociedades mas inclusivas, algo que entronca con la esencia histórica de la ciudad de Córdoba.

También destaca la importancia del Club de Madrid como organización que reúne a un elenco de líderes mundiales unidos en el empeño común de contribuir a un futuro mejor para todos, sobre la base de la libertad, la igualdad y la solidaridad.

Córdoba acogió del 17 al 19 de marzo de 2009 el Primer Foro Internacional sobre Diversidad e Interculturalidad, como un espacio de encuentro para analizar el diálogo entre culturas y favorecer el diálogo, la comunicación de experiencias sociales y la formación de dinámicas de cooperación entre sociedad civil e instituciones gubernamentales en las diferentes regiones del mundo. Kim Campbell, ex primera ministra de Canadá y miembro del Club de Madrid, ofreció la conferencia inaugural del Foro de Córdoba; en su intervención, Ms. Campbell, destacó el importante que juegan los líderes para promover la convivencia, especialmente en momentos de crisis “Los líderes deben tener la integridad y el carácter para buscar salidas fáciles. Deben mantener a la gente unida para enfrentarse al desafío de la crisis de forma conjunta sin buscar chivos expiatorios. Un buen líder es aquel que moviliza a la sociedad a hacer cosas de las que nunca se avergonzará”
